Are you planning a family trip to Disney? Are you worried about how to survive with your little one at the most magical place on earth? As a mom who has braved five days at Disney with a toddler, let me tell you that it’s tough, but it’s totally doable. To make your trip more enjoyable and less stressful, I’ve put together this guide with tips and tricks that I wish someone had told me before I set off on our Disney adventure.
Plan Ahead: Before you even set foot in the park, plan your trip as much as you can. Do your research on rides and attractions that are toddler-friendly and make a schedule. This way, you can manage your time more efficiently and avoid long queues and crowds. Learn to use the Disney Experience app and get very familiar with the dreadful Genie system so that you can spend your time enjoying the rides and not standing in line. If possible, try to book accommodation near the park, and if you’re able I always recommend staying onsite for the added benefits. Also so you can take a break from all the walking and head back to your hotel for a nap.
Pack Smart: When packing for your trip, make sure to pack for every scenario. Florida is known for its unpredictable weather, so pack rain gear and sunscreen. Bring a stroller that is compact and easy to maneuver through crowds. A backpack is your best friend, and you can carry everything you need, including snacks, water, diapers, wipes, and even a change of clothes for your toddler.
Take Breaks: This tip cannot be stressed enough. Taking breaks is important for both you and your toddler. Take a break during the hottest part of the day and head indoors to attend a show or eat lunch. Take advantage of the Baby Care Centers located in each park. They are air-conditioned rooms where you can change diapers, nurse your baby, and even rock them to sleep.
Be Flexible: I know that you want to follow the schedule you made, but sometimes things don’t go as planned. Your toddler may have a meltdown or fall asleep at the most inconvenient time. Be flexible and adjust your schedule as needed. Don’t be afraid to skip a ride or two. Remember, the trip is about making memories with your family, not just checking off a list of rides.
Embrace the Magic: Finally, the most important tip of all, embrace the magic. Yes, the crowds can be overwhelming, and the heat can be draining, but don’t forget why you are there. Seeing the smile on your toddler’s face when they meet their favorite character or experience a ride for the first time is priceless. Take lots of pictures and soak up every moment with your family.
If I can survive five days at Disney with a toddler is tough but achievable. Planning ahead, packing smart, taking breaks, being flexible, and embracing the magic all contribute to a memorable and enjoyable trip. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if needed, and remember to have fun. With these tips in mind, you’ll be able to tackle Disney with your toddler and make the most out of your family vacation.
